I decided to redesign the character selection menu of Mass Effect Andromeda.

Research

After playing this game and watching videos of people playing the game, I noticed that it can be improved with simple redesigns. For someone who never played Mass Effect, they won't know that there are different categories of characters that they can choose from. In previous Mass Effect games, they had the characters categorized and for some reason they decided to remove this option from this game. Some people were complaining that the bonus stat that appears on the bottom right is hard to read specially if it is on multiple line. They also find it difficult to read the button layout at the bottom of the screen.

Sketching and Prototyping

After understanding the users needs, I sketched the layout of the page. then I used Adobe Illustrator and XD to do the prototype and the final result.

Features

Characters are categorized based on their role. This way users can find the character they want to play as faster. Specially if the player is new to the Mass Effect games.

I also added a background to the Xbox buttons and made the text white so it will be easier to see.

I also added background to the Bonus stat section to make it easier to see. It was hard to see specially if the text was on multiple lines

Finally converted the unlocked characters to black and white and reduced the opacity of it, so the users will know that this character is locked and can't be selected. The original game only reduces the opacity, and they reduce it so much that in some parts of the layout the character avatar is blended with the background.
